Segundo imagens de sat\u00e9lites que monitoram o continente gelado, ele est\u00e1 perdendo 200 bilh\u00f5es de toneladas de gelo por ano.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wall\">\n<div class=\"mc-column data-track-links=\"\">O efeito imediato desse derretimento para o meio ambiente \u00e9 o aumento global do n\u00edvel do mar em aproximadamente 0,6 mil\u00edmetros anuais \u2013 um n\u00famero tr\u00eas vezes maior se comparado com os dados de 2012, quando a \u00faltima avalia\u00e7\u00e3o foi feita.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"25\" data-block-id=\"4\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Cientistas fizeram um levantamento da massa do manto de gelo ant\u00e1rtico no per\u00edodo de 1992 a 2017 e divulgaram novos n\u00fameros na publica\u00e7\u00e3o acad\u00eamica Nature.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"35\" data-block-id=\"5\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">As informa\u00e7\u00f5es divulgadas, bem como a tend\u00eancia de acelera\u00e7\u00e3o do derretimento, ter\u00e3o de ser levadas em considera\u00e7\u00e3o pelos governos \u00e0 medida que planejam futuras medidas para proteger as comunidades costeiras de \u00e1reas de baixa altitude.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"38\" data-block-id=\"6\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Os pesquisadores respons\u00e1veis pelo levantamento afirmam que a redu\u00e7\u00e3o da camada de gelo est\u00e1 acontecendo principalmente no oeste do continente, onde \u00e1guas sob temperaturas mais elevadas est\u00e3o submergindo e derretendo as frentes de geleiras que terminam no oceano.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"36\" data-block-id=\"7\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">&#8220;N\u00e3o podemos dizer quando isso come\u00e7ou \u2013 n\u00e3o colet\u00e1vamos medi\u00e7\u00f5es no mar naquela \u00e9poca&#8221;, explicou o professor Andrew Shepherd, que lidera a Pesquisa de Compara\u00e7\u00e3o do Balan\u00e7o da Massa de Est\u00e1 cerca de meio grau Celsius acima do que o continente suporta. Sua base est\u00e1 derretendo cerca de cinco metros a cada ano, e \u00e9 isso que est\u00e1 provocando o acr\u00e9scimo ao n\u00edvel do mar que estamos vendo&#8221;, disse ele \u00e0 BBC News.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"36\" data-block-id=\"11\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">O levantamento indicou que, no total, a Ant\u00e1rtida perdeu cerca de 2,7 trilh\u00f5es de toneladas de gelo entre 1992 e 2017, o que corresponde a um aumento no n\u00edvel global do mar de mais de 7,5mm.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles\" data-block-type=\"raw\" data-block-weight=\"5\" data-block-id=\"12\">\n<div class=\"content-intertitle\">\n<h2>Ajuda que vem de cima<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"24\" data-block-id=\"13\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Sat\u00e9lites de ag\u00eancias espaciais t\u00eam sobrevoado a Ant\u00e1rtida desde os anos 1990. que aponta para a Am\u00e9rica do Sul, as perdas subiram de 7 bilh\u00f5es para 33 bilh\u00f5es de toneladas anuais.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"25\" data-block-id=\"22\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Segundo os cientistas, isso aconteceu, em grande parte, porque as plataformas flutuantes de gelo desmoronaram, permitindo que as geleiras que ficavam atr\u00e1s derretessem mais r\u00e1pido.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"51\" data-block-id=\"23\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">O lado leste do continente \u00e9 a \u00fanica regi\u00e3o onde h\u00e1 registro de crescimento da camada de gelo. Grande parte dessa regi\u00e3o est\u00e1 fora do oceano e acumula neve ao longo do tempo.
