Esse apetite crescente se deve principalmente ao aumento do consumo na China e na \u00cdndia, os dois pa\u00edses mais populosos do planeta.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"63\" data-block-id=\"7\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">A \u00cdndia teve, por exemplo, o maior aumento de consumo em 2016 (13%). Mas os maiores glut\u00f5es de chocolate ainda s\u00e3o os Estados Unidos, que responde por 20% de toda a demanda. No momento de publica\u00e7\u00e3o desta reportagem, o pre\u00e7o era de US$ 2.164 (R$ 7,04 mil).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"38\" data-block-id=\"15\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Isso \u00e9 sentido por agricultores, a grande maioria dos quais est\u00e1 em pa\u00edses pobres \u2013 os principais produtores s\u00e3o, por exemplo, na\u00e7\u00f5es africanas. Dois deles (Costa do Marfim e Gana) respondem por mais da metade da produ\u00e7\u00e3o global.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"38\" data-block-id=\"16\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Ativistas dizem que os agricultores recebem apenas 6,6% do valor de cada tonelada vendida. Para piorar, a m\u00e9dia de idade de um agricultor de cacau \u00e9 de 51 anos \u2013 os mais jovens est\u00e3o buscando alternativas mais lucrativas.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-ads content-ads--reveal\" data-block-type=\"ads\" data-block-id=\"17\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles\" data-block-type=\"raw\" data-block-weight=\"4\" data-block-id=\"18\">\n<div class=\"content-intertitle\">\n<h2>\u00c9 um cultivo dif\u00edcil<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"44\" data-block-id=\"19\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">O cacaueiro (Theobroma cacao) \u00e9 uma \u00e1rvore nativa de ecossistemas tropicais e s\u00f3 cresce em climas \u00famidos com uma temporada de seca mais curta e chuvas regulares, raz\u00e3o pela qual ela pode ser encontrada a dez graus acima ou abaixo da linha do Equador.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"38\" data-block-id=\"20\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Sua produ\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 pouco sofisiticada: 90% vem de pequenas fazendas familiares. O cultivo e a colheita s\u00e3o atividades de m\u00e3o de obra intensiva. Os frutos n\u00e3o amadurecem todos ao mesmo tempo, e \u00e9 preciso monitorar as \u00e1rvores constantemente.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"35\" data-block-id=\"21\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Segundo a ONG Make Chocolate Fair (Torne o Chocolate Justo, em tradu\u00e7\u00e3o livre), o cacaueiro d\u00e1 frutos o ano todo, e \u00e9 necess\u00e1ria a produ\u00e7\u00e3o inteira de uma \u00e1rvore para produzir meio quilo de cacau.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles\" data-block-type=\"raw\" data-block-weight=\"5\" data-block-id=\"22\">\n<div class=\"content-intertitle\">\n<h2>\u00c9 sens\u00edvel a mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"42\" data-block-id=\"23\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Pequenas altera\u00e7\u00f5es no clima podem prejudicar o cultivo, ent\u00e3o, as mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas impactam a ind\u00fastria como um todo. Um recente relat\u00f3rio da Universidade da Calif\u00f3rnia prev\u00ea que &#8220;mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas reduzir\u00e3o significativamente as terras adequadas para o cultivo do cacau nas pr\u00f3ximas d\u00e9cadas&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"25\" data-block-id=\"24\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Pesquisas do Painel Intergovernamental sobre Mudan\u00e7as Clim\u00e1ticas (IPCC, na sigla em ingl\u00eas) apontam que a Costa do Marfim e Gana perder\u00e3o grandes \u00e1reas de cultivo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles\" data-block-type=\"raw\" data-block-weight=\"5\" data-block-id=\"25\">\n<div class=\"content-intertitle\">\n<h2>\u00c9 um banquete para pragas<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"32\" data-block-id=\"26\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Ao contr\u00e1rio de outros cultivos, que foram alvo de esfor\u00e7os cient\u00edficos cont\u00ednuos para aumentar sua produtividade e resist\u00eancia a condi\u00e7\u00f5es ambientais adversas e doen\u00e7as, o cacau ainda \u00e9 basicamente uma planta selvagem.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"31\" data-block-id=\"27\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Em seu habitat natural, a bacia amaz\u00f4nica, as \u00e1rvores &#8220;aprenderam&#8221; a lidar com pat\u00f3genos desta \u00e1rea, mas a introdu\u00e7\u00e3o da \u00e1rvore na \u00c1frica por colonizadores europeus no s\u00e9culo 19 mudou isso.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"53\" data-block-id=\"28\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">&#8220;Essas plantas foram levadas para outro continente e para um ecossistema ao qual n\u00e3o estavam adaptadas.
