hipersoci\u00e1vel. Eu at\u00e9 tive que fazer um exame de gen\u00f3tipo&#8221;, admite von Holdt.<\/p>\n<p>O interesse de Von Holdt n\u00e3o \u00e9 mera curiosidade. A bi\u00f3logo evolutiva de Princeton e alguns colegas passaram os \u00faltimos tr\u00eas anos estudando a base gen\u00e9tica respons\u00e1vel pelo comportamento social em c\u00e3es e lobos.<\/p>\n<p>Estudos mostram que os c\u00e3es s\u00e3o mais soci\u00e1veis do que os lobos criados em circunst\u00e2ncias semelhantes \u2013 eles geralmente prestam mais aten\u00e7\u00e3o aos seres humanos e seguem nossas diretrizes e comandos de forma mais eficaz.<\/p>\n<p>A experi\u00eancia de Von Holdt em gen\u00e9tica evolutiva fez com que ela se perguntasse sobre a potencial base gen\u00e9tica dessas diferen\u00e7as.<\/p>\n<p>O estudo, publicado no peri\u00f3dico\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/advances.sciencemag.org\/content\/3\/7\/e1700398\"><em>Ci\u00eancias Avan\u00e7adas<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em>\u00a0fornece uma dica interessante: c\u00e3es hipersoci\u00e1veis, como a Marla, carregam variantes de dois genes chamados de GTF2I e GTF2IRD1. MUSI, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CREATIVE<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph paragraph--type--content paragraph--view-mode--default\">\n<div>\n<p>Desde que evolu\u00edram de um antepassado comum aos lobos, h\u00e1 pelo menos dez mil anos, os cachorros dom\u00e9sticos nos ajudam a encontrar comida e nos protegem de nos tornarmos comida de outras esp\u00e9cies, ao mesmo tempo em que fornecem uma companhia amig\u00e1vel e uma cauda alegre.<\/p>\n<p>Compreender como nossos melhores amigos, do chihuahua ao mastiff, se tornaram o que hoje s\u00e3o uma quest\u00e3o \u201csexy&#8221;, de acordo com\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.k9behavioralgenetics.net\/who-we-are.php\">Karen Overall<\/a>, especialista em comportamento canino da Universidade da Pensilv\u00e2nia que n\u00e3o estava envolvida no novo estudo.<\/p>\n<p>Em 2010, em colabora\u00e7\u00e3o com\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/anrs.oregonstate.edu\/content\/monique-udell\">Monique Udell<\/a>, um behaviorista animal na Universidade Estadual de Oregon, von Holdt procurou os genomas de c\u00e3es e lobos e identificou altera\u00e7\u00f5es no gene WBSCR17 que ocorreram durante a domestica\u00e7\u00e3o de c\u00e3es. Os\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/20237475\">resultados foram publicados na<em>\u00a0Nature<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Seu projeto ficou inativo at\u00e9 2014, quando von Holdt e Udell conseguiram financiamento para criar um novo conjunto de experimentos com 18 cachorros de v\u00e1rias ra\u00e7as \u2013 incluindo dachshund, jack russell terrier e bernese \u2013 e 10 lobos habituados aos humanos.<\/p>\n<p>Os cientistas treinaram todos os animais para abrir uma caixa que continha um peda\u00e7o de salsicha. Essa vantagem aumentou ainda mais quando os cachorros tiveram que abrir a caixa na presen\u00e7a de pessoas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;N\u00e3o \u00e9 que eles n\u00e3o conseguiam resolver o quebra-cabe\u00e7a, eles estavam mais ocupados em observar o humano&#8221;, diz von Holdt.<\/p>\n<h3>CACHORROS AINDA EM EVOLU\u00c7\u00c3O<\/h3>\n<p>Para o novo estudo, Von Holdt realizou an\u00e1lises gen\u00e9ticas adicionais da parte do genoma envolvendo o gene WBSCR17 alterado em uma amostra maior de cachorros e lobos.<\/p>\n<p>Al\u00e9m de confirmar suas descobertas iniciais de que WBSCR17 variou em cachorros e lobos, ela encontrou dois genes pr\u00f3ximos, GTF2I e GTF2IRD1, tamb\u00e9m diferentes.<\/p>\n<p>A combina\u00e7\u00e3o dos dados gen\u00e9ticos e comportamentais mostrou \u00e0 von Holdt que as mudan\u00e7as nesta regi\u00e3o do genoma ajudaram a transformar lobos em cachorros que amavam os seres humanos.<\/p>\n<p>Karen Overall, da Universidade da Pensilv\u00e2nia, observa que a amostragem do estudo era pequena, o que limita a for\u00e7a das descobertas.
