data-track-links=\"\">S\u00e3o as chamadas &#8220;zonas mortas&#8221;, onde as esp\u00e9cies s\u00f3 t\u00eam duas alternativas: a migra\u00e7\u00e3o ou a morte.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"47\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">A &#8220;zona morta&#8221; do Golfo do M\u00e9xico atingiu neste ano seu maior tamanho na hist\u00f3ria, conforme informou nesta semana a Administra\u00e7\u00e3o Oce\u00e2nica e Atmosf\u00e9rica dos Estados Unidos (NOAA, na sigla em ingl\u00eas). \u00c9 a segunda maior do mundo, ficando atr\u00e1s apenas da zona morta do Mar B\u00e1ltico.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"29\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Ela est\u00e1 localizada na foz do Rio Mississippi, que atravessa 10 Estados dos EUA antes de chegar ao Golfo do M\u00e9xico, perto de Nova Orleans, no sudeste do pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column \u00e1rea total de El Salvador e 15 vezes o tamanho da Cidade do M\u00e9xico.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"16\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Trata-se da maior extens\u00e3o alcan\u00e7ada por esta regi\u00e3o desde que come\u00e7ou a ser monitorada em 1985.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles\" data-block-type=\"raw\" data-block-weight=\"3\">\n<div class=\"content-intertitle\">\n<h2>O que aconteceu?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"35\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Robert Magnien, diretor do Centro de Pesquisas de Patrim\u00f4nio de Oceanos Costeiros da NOAA, explicou \u00e0 BBC que o crescimento sem precedentes da zona morta do Golfo do M\u00e9xico est\u00e1 relacionado principalmente a atividades humanas.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"33\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Segundo o especialista, res\u00edduos gerados pela popula\u00e7\u00e3o, o aumento da agricultura na regi\u00e3o e o uso de fertilizantes e outros produtos qu\u00edmicos influenciaram a expans\u00e3o da \u00e1rea, onde a vida contamina\u00e7\u00e3o causada por fertilizantes, principalmente em decorr\u00eancia das atividades agr\u00edcolas, afetam cada vez mais os recursos costeiros e habitats de esp\u00e9cies no golfo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"34\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Os nutrientes de fertilizantes s\u00e3o levados pela correnteza do rio Mississipi e estimulam o crescimento de algas e pl\u00e2ncton, que ao se decompor consomem oxig\u00eanio, vital para a exist\u00eancia de vida marinha na regi\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"15\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Al\u00e9m disso, a decomposi\u00e7\u00e3o destes organismos aumenta os n\u00edveis de nitrog\u00eanio e f\u00f3sforo na \u00e1gua.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"40\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">De acordo com Magnien, &#8220;v\u00e1rias esp\u00e9cies e ecossistemas ambientais s\u00e3o afetados pela expans\u00e3o da zona morta&#8221;, uma vez que a falta de oxig\u00eanio provoca a perda do habitat dos peixes, obrigando que eles se mudem para outras \u00e1reas para sobreviver.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"17\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Outro efeito \u00e9 a redu\u00e7\u00e3o da capacidade de reprodu\u00e7\u00e3o e a diminui\u00e7\u00e3o do tamanho m\u00e9dio das esp\u00e9cies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-track-links=\"\">H\u00e1 \u00e1reas do Golfo do M\u00e9xico que foram atingidas ainda por vazamento de petr\u00f3leo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles\" crescimento da zona morta tem impactos econ\u00f4micos que afetam a popula\u00e7\u00e3o que vive na regi\u00e3o do golfo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" quantidade de camar\u00e3o, cuja pesca \u00e9 uma das principais atividades na \u00e1rea, \u00e9 um dos efeitos.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"44\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Um estudo recente encomendado pelo NOAA \u00e0 Universidade de Duke, nos Estados Unidos, mostra que a expans\u00e3o da zona morta provocou o aumento do pre\u00e7o do camar\u00e3o-marrom devido \u00e0 sua escassez, afetando n\u00e3o s\u00f3 a economia local, mas o mercado de frutos do mar.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-ads content-ads--reveal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"21\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Steven Thur, diretor da NOAA, explica que as medi\u00e7\u00f5es desta regi\u00e3o s\u00e3o importantes para antecipar tend\u00eancias e evitar poss\u00edveis impactos negativos.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Nos \u00faltimos cinco anos, o tamanho m\u00e9dio da regi\u00e3o girou em torno de 15 mil data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Um grupo de trabalho ligado \u00e0 Ag\u00eancia de Prote\u00e7\u00e3o Ambiental dos EUA tem o objetivo de fazer com que a &#8220;zona morta&#8221; cubra menos de 5 mil km\u00b2 de \u00e1rea marinha.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mc-column content-text active-extra-styles \" data-block-type=\"unstyled\" data-block-weight=\"46\">\n<p class=\"content-text__container \" data-track-category=\"Link no Texto\" data-track-links=\"\">Entre as atividades promovidas pelo governo americano para reduzir o tamanho da regi\u00e3o, est\u00e1 a negocia\u00e7\u00e3o com agricultores do Golfo do M\u00e9xico para que o impacto do uso de fertilizantes na bacia do Mississippi seja menor, fazendo com que menos nutrientes desemboquem na foz do
